Notice of asbestos work and ventilation shutdown

Affected room(s) during ventilation shutdown period

Rooms 213 and 214

What is being done and why?

Ventilation will be shut down so that contractor (Envirosafe) can remove asbestos containing insulation from the window radiator pipes for repairs to the unit.

What precautions are being taken?

  • All asbestos activities will be performed by contractor (Envirosafe) following type 2 asbestos procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable Ministry of Labour and University standards.
  • Access to the work areas will be restricted.

How will it impact building occupants?

  • In any room listed above that does not have a fume hood, stop all activities involving airborne hazards including the use of solvents, toxic powders, CO2, liquid nitrogen, and any other toxic material that could become airborne.
  • Please ensure all equipment and/or experiments are protected.
  • Every effort will be made to keep the noise and disruption to a minimum. If required, any additional building system shutdowns will be kept to an absolute minimum and notice will be given to the affected building occupants.
  • Any furniture required to be moved to create space for the work to occur will be moved back to the original location once the work is complete.
  • No lab equipment, chemicals or any other items will be disturbed or relocated.
