Lab hazardous waste collection schedule

Lab hazardous waste — collection schedule

The Environmental Protection Services team handles the collection, processing and disposal of all chemical, biological and radioactive waste generated at U of T. Find how to schedule chemical waste pickups and weekly biological and radioactive pickup days by building.

Before your lab hazardous waste pickup

Please follow the packaging, labelling and storage procedures for your waste type:

  • Chemical waste: See Chemical waste for how to separate, package and label.
  • Biological waste: See Biological waste for how to separate, treat, package and label.
  • Radioactive waste: See Radioactive waste for how to separate, package and label.

For all other lab hazardous waste procedures and compliance, see Lab hazardous waste.

Chemical waste — request a pickup

How scheduling works

  • First‑come, first‑served: With 1,500+ labs on St. George campus, it typically takes 1–2 weeks to schedule a direct chemical pickup from one location — please plan ahead.
  • Request service: Contact the Environmental Protection Services team.
  • Prepare your waste correctly: Follow the Chemical waste separation, packaging and labelling steps so your pickup can proceed without delays.

Biological waste — weekly pickup schedule

  • Find your building’s biological waste pickup day.
  • Follow the Biological waste separation, treatment, packaging and labelling procedure.

Note: Some buildings operate on a call‑in basis — in these cases, contact the Environmental Protection Services team to schedule a pickup.
