Pest control
As with any space, unwanted pests sometimes enter buildings on campus seeking food, water and warmth. Prevention efforts and pest control are essential to limit pests and prevent health and property damage concerns.
Pest prevention
Facilities & Services works with a contracted partner, Orkin Canada, to oversee pest control for our campus clients.
To prevent pests from becoming an issue, we encourage the university community to engage in pest prevention efforts. By taking simple steps to keep our campus clean and tidy, and reduce access to food, water and shelter, we can all help keep our spaces pest-free.
Pests can multiply quickly so it is important to contact your property manager as soon as you notice signs of pests.
Other pest prevention methods
- Report gaps and openings around doors, vents, etc. to your property manager
- Keep compost/garbage sealed and use a tight-fitting lid where applicable
- Ensure your garbage bins are not overflowing
- Clean up cluttered areas
- Move items off the ground and place in hard-walled containers
- Store food and drinks in tightly sealed containers or completely remove food sources
- Don’t store food in desk drawers
- Clean up food spills immediately
- Keep food prep and storage areas clean and avoid leaving food out
- Return dirty dishes to the kitchen and clean them promptly
- If grounds maintenance is required at your building, such as to trim back overgrown vegetation around the building perimeters, contact your property manager
Pest inspection frequency
Orkin Canada conducts pest inspections monthly in common areas (such as lobbies and washrooms) and staff kitchens. They will also inspect individual offices if requested.
