Facilities support during the holiday break

This page provides details about St. George facilities services during the holiday break, including emergency contacts, how to request support and how to prepare your space before leaving for the holidays.

Holiday closure dates

The University of Toronto will be closed from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to Friday, January 2, 2026.

The last day for regular F&S services is Tuesday, December 23.

Regular operations resume on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Non-emergency facilities requests

For non-emergency facilities requests, please submit a service request. Requests will be addressed once regular operations resume on January 5.

Service availability

While the university is closed, most facilities services will operate on a reduced schedule and building systems will be adjusted to conserve energy. Please review the information below and plan for any services you may need during the holiday closure.

Mail services before the holiday break

Last day for mail pick-up: Tuesday, December 23.

Drop off deadline: Bring any mail that must be delivered before the holiday break to the mailroom by December 23 at 9 a.m.

We will process any items received after this time in the new year.

The Campus Safety team is on duty 24 hours a day, every day.

Report a problem

You can also use the campus safety app to chat with dispatch or report an incident. 

Request a TravelSafer escort

Call 416-978-7233 to request a TravelSafer escort to or from any campus location, including nearby TTC stations.

Submit your service request by Friday, December 12, 2025 if you need caretaking services during the closure.

Overtime rates will be charged for opening or cleaning buildings during this period.

The Environmental Protection Services team does not collect or dispose of hazardous waste during the holiday break.

Last chemical waste service: Monday, December 22.

Last biological/radioactive waste collection: Tuesday, December 23.

  • Request extra supplies

Chemical spills

Call campus safety at 416-978-2222 immediately if a chemical spill occurs during the holiday break.

The Fire Prevention team is available to provide support throughout the holiday season for:

  • Fire alarm and life safety equipment 
  • Contactors requiring isolations
  • Hot work permits
  • Active fire in building
  • Service order numbers for repairs (Buxton & Dawe)
  • Replacement of used fire extinguishers
  • Mechanical failure or emergency involving a fire sprinkler system

The Hazardous Construction Materials team is available to provide support throughout the holiday season for:

  • Emergency flood clean-up in buildings with asbestos fireproofing
  • Any other asbestos-related emergency

Submit your service request by Friday, December 12, 2025 if you need waste pickup during the closure. Charges will apply for this service.

Building conditions during closure

  • Most buildings will be locked.
  • Ambient temperatures in most buildings will be lowered to below 20 C and ventilation systems will operate at a minimum level to reduce campus energy consumption.
  • If you anticipate problem areas based on your experience last year, contact your area manager.

Before leaving for the holiday break:
