St. George facilities holiday coverage
The University of Toronto will be closed for the December holiday break from Tuesday, December 24, 2024, through Friday, January 3, 2025, inclusive.
The last day for regular F&S services at the St. George campus is Monday, December 23. Regular services will resume on Monday, January 6.
The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority
Campus Safety is on duty 24 hours a day, every day.
If you notice a problem on campus, call Campus Safety at 416-978-2222 for urgent matters or 416-978-2323 for general inquiries. You may also use the Campus Safety app to chat with dispatch or report an incident.
To request a TravelSafer escort to and from any location on campus, including adjacent TTC stations, call 416-978-7233.
Buildings will be locked during the closure
In keeping with our sustainability efforts, F&S will take advantage of this low-traffic period to reduce energy consumption on the St. George campus. In most buildings, ambient temperatures will be lowered to below 20ºC and ventilation will be minimized. We would ask everyone to remember to please make sure all small electrical appliances and space heaters are left unplugged.
To reduce the risk of a freeze-up, please ensure that all windows are closed and heating units are left in the ‘on’ position. If you anticipate problem areas based on your experience last year, contact your area manager.
Flood risk
The fire prevention team would like to remind the university community of the dangers associated with freezing pipes (and the resulting flooding). Please consult this resource for tips on how to minimize the risk.
Libraries may have different holiday hours. Check the U of T Libraries website for more information.
Facilities support during the holiday break
To help with building security, cleaning and heating, please let F&S know if you anticipate needing support during the holiday break.

The last day for mail pickup on campus this year is Monday, December 23, 2024.
Any mail that needs to be delivered before the holiday break must be dropped off at the mailroom by Monday, December 23 at 9:00 a.m. Any items received after this time will be processed in the new year.

If you need caretaking services during the closure, please submit a service request by the end of the day on Friday, December 13, 2024.
You will be charged for opening or cleaning buildings at overtime rates.

If you need garbage pickup during the closure, please submit a service request, by Friday, December 20, 2024. You will be charged for this service.

The fire prevention team is available throughout the holiday season to assist with:
- Fire alarm and life safety equipment
- Contactors requiring isolations
- Hot work permits
- Active fire at building
- Service order numbers for repairs (Eurotech)
- Used fire extinguisher replacement
Please contact the sprinkler team in the event of a mechanical failure or emergency concerning a building’s fire sprinkler system. (The holiday procedure is the same as the after-hours procedure.)
