Window washing
The Facilities & Services Property Management team oversees window washing on the St. George campus.
Windows are washed by our contracted cleaning partner Toronto Window Cleaning.
How campus windows are washed
Buildings that are under four storeys
Cleaners wash windows on buildings three storeys or less from the ground using a water-fed pole to clean harder-to-reach areas.
Buildings that are four storeys and up
Cleaners wash windows on buildings four storeys and up using the swing stage, bosun chair and rope access methods. For these methods, cleaners attach suspension lines to anchors on the building’s roof to enable them to descend vertically along the face of the building.
To ensure the roof anchors are in good condition and capable of supporting the required weight, they must be certified annually. This is done before the start of the annual window cleaning.
Window washing frequency
Windows on campus are typically washed once per year. This process usually starts in the spring and continues until the fall. Window washing depends on the weather, especially wind, as it can cause safety concerns for the cleaners and pedestrians below. As such the schedule shared below is tentative and may change.
