Get to know F&S: Nicole Wilkinson

Anyone who speaks with Nicole Wilkinson, a property manager at Facilities & Services, will immediately notice how passionate she is about the buildings she manages. Her genuine happiness leaves no doubt as to how much she cares about her clients.

Her work with the University of Toronto began in 2007 when she joined UTSC as a facilities coordinator in Student Housing and Residence Life. Next, she moved to the Rotman School of Management, and then to York University before returning to U of T in 2020.

“I wanted to come back because it felt like home to work here,” Wilkinson says. “I’ve always enjoyed working with different clients and buildings as it keeps you on your toes—no two days are the same.”

Wilkinson oversees the operations of 10 buildings on the St. George campus, including the Robarts Library complex, Cumberland House, Enrolment Services, and the Koffler Student Services Centre.

According to Wilkinson, most of her buildings host student services, and she is the primary contact for all maintenance and operations inquiries.

Each property manager on the St. George campus is assigned a portfolio of buildings with similar characteristics, so they could become specialized in meeting specific client needs. Clients can browse the find your property manager page on the F&S website to find a contact for maintenance or operations requests and questions.

“I’m known as a problem-solver,” she says. “Even if I’m not sure about something, if they [clients] come to me, the problem is getting solved.”

Wilkinson’s responsibilities involve overseeing repairs and managing renovations, such as roof replacements, to ensure that all buildings operate smoothly.

As someone who joined F&S right before the pandemic, she found it challenging to get to know people, but it didn’t stop her from moving forward with the assigned projects.

Just in time for September 2021, her team successfully completed the renovation of Starbucks at Robarts.

“That was on everyone’s radar as they wanted to get it open in time for students coming back to school,” Wilkinson recalls.

Her biggest accomplishment, as she puts it, is her relationship with the clients and her team.

“I’m proud of my good relationships with my different customers—they know who to go to, they know that I’m going to support them,” Wilkinson says. “I am also proud of working here with a great team of property managers who support each other.”
