Sustainable change programs

What are the Sustainable Change Programs?

The Sustainable Change Programs were designed to engage and empower U of T students, staff and faculty to actively follow sustainable practices in offices, residences, event planning, labs and courses across campus through a self-assessment certification process.

How to take part:

Decide what program is the best fit for you

Each sustainable change program web page has information that will guide you towards certification: an overview, program highlights, and resources. We encourage you to review these materials before completing the certification form.

Complete the certification form

Complete the certification form for yourself or on behalf of your office, residence, event, lab, or course. The form asks questions about sustainability best practices such as energy, water, waste, food, and transportation.

Review and confirmation

The Sustainability Office will review your certification form and will contact you if we require any further clarification about your answers. We will then email you your certification materials and post your certification to the website (if we have permission).

Prepare for next year

Review your results and consult the resources section of your chosen program to prepare for next year’s certificationand always aim for platinum!

Why certify?

Sustainability is everyone’s responsibility—that’s why it’s important to engage with and empower the community to take action to affect sustainable change. Certification is your opportunity to chip in. Your actions matter, and we want to recognize them.

Not only will you receive a digital copy of your certificate and badge (or ribbon), but we will also recognize you on the leaderboard of participants and through the Sustainability Office’s social media channels. Below are samples of the badges/ribbons you or your team could earn.

How to get certified?

Get certified following these steps!

  1. Choose a program from the tiles above (labs, offices, events, residences, courses)
  2. Review the information in the program overview, highlights, and resources section
  3. Go to the Certification tab and select “Get Certified”
  4. Sign in using your UTORid to launch the certification form and follow the instructions
  5. Submit the form and await review and confirmation from the Sustainability Office
  6. Get your certificate package (certificate, badge/ribbon and quick resource guide)
  7. Review your results and program resources to improve your score next year!

NOTE: When you fill out a certification form, your progress does not get saved. This means that you must complete the form in one session.

Certifications are valid for one year, and we update the programs annually to ensure they continue to align with sustainability best practices.
