Get to know F&S: Albert Trinier

After five years at Metrolinx, Albert Trinier was impressed by the Sustainability Office’s ambitious goals.

“During the interview process, I realized that the Sustainability Office wants to ensure that the University of Toronto becomes a sustainability leader,” said Trinier. “This was something that really drew me into this role.”

As a project manager with the Sustainability Office, Trinier is supporting an ambitious air travel emissions mitigation initiative, aimed at reducing emissions from business-related university air travel through U of T-based carbon offset projects.

He is also busy expanding our support to programs like the Intelligent Building Digital Twin and Campus as a Living Lab by building pathways to provide data to support research and learning across campus.

Trinier brings people together to ensure they are focused on realizing the benefits of sustainability projects. This dialogue and coordination ensure the implementation of ambitious climate goals.

“I have only been in the role for two months, but a huge component of my work has been getting everyone together on the same page to see how we can push sustainability without it being a deterrent to achieving other goals as well,” said Trinier.

Pushing projects forward with many stakeholders can be a challenge. Thankfully, that’s not a concern for Trinier.

“I love working with others,” he said. “I’m a team-oriented individual. It comes naturally to me. I like connecting with people on a personal level to learn something unique about them and their interests.”

Overseeing impactful projects also requires meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organization skills. To keep organized, Trinier makes detailed project plans and takes impeccable notes. He also loves creating mental maps. Trinier wants to achieve important things in his role.

“I hope that we can make more connections beyond Facilities & Services and further build relationships with academics, employees, students, and the broader university community. It’s good to get that feedback,” said Trinier.

Even outside of work, sustainability means a great deal to him.

“Sustainability means striving to ensure what we leave behind is as good or better than how we found it.”
