“I focus on giving each and every person a positive experience,” Martins said. “My biggest priority in my career is helping people.”

Martins completed an undergraduate degree in health and geriatrics and a minor in mental health, addictions, and community engagement. Her career has always been focused on helping people in all contexts.

Martins was not always set on becoming a law enforcement officer but became a special constable as it was perfectly aligned with her pursuits of helping people while still being in a university context.

Since joining Facilities & Services at the end of November 2020, Martins has engaged community members through social media. She combines her profession with prominent trends to increase student engagement through humour and creativity.

“I started social media pages for the University of Toronto’s Campus Safety team to better connect with the community we serve daily,” Martins said. “The university student demographic enjoys TikTok, so I thought it would be great to show more of our personalities and interact with students on the app.”

Martins has been running the @uoftsafety TikTok page since June of 2022 and has since gained over one hundred thousand likes for the account. She regularly posts safety tips along with fun posts to let students get to know the special constables better.
