Plugged In: Highlights of 2022
As the year draws to a close, we look back at just a few of our most memorable moments and achievements—from team celebrations to art and new technology. Read about 10 of our favourite highlights from 2022.
One important pilot to advance period equity

At the start of 2022, in partnership with the Office of the Vice-Provost, Students, we installed free menstrual product dispensers in female, male, and gender-inclusive washrooms as the first step in an initiative to advance period equity on campus.
One very unique art exhibit

In March, we funded and hosted Clinic Into the Future, an art installation by a local artist, curated by a first-year master of visual studies student, documenting U of T’s unprecedented mass-vaccination drive.
The first published summary of our climate efforts

On Earth Day, we released our first annual sustainability report, highlighting our efforts to take action on climate change.
One system for maintenance

In June, in close collaboration with Information Technology Services, we implemented a new suite of digital and mobile applications to facilitate preventive maintenance and repairs on the St. George campus.
One unprecedented announcement

In July, we announced a landmark partnership with the Canadian Infrastructure Bank of $56M of financing towards Project Leap, which aims to cut St. George campus emissions in half by 2030.
One BBQ in the sun to celebrate staff

In August, we celebrated 42 F&S staff for distinguished service and outstanding impact at the annual Operations and Real Estate Partnerships BBQ.
One special recognition luncheon

In September, we were honoured to see our winners of the Simcoe Hall Vice-Presidential (SVP) staff awards, Kevin Leong, project manager, and Ronald Atkins, manager, caretaking services, celebrated for outstanding contributions and exemplary service at the first in-person staff award ceremony since the pandemic.
One sustainability leadership award

In October, we were thrilled by the naming of our Chief Operating Officer, Ron Saporta, as one of Canada’s 2023 Clean16 and Clean50 honourees.
Another year of working with the next generation

Throughout the year, we are proud to have provided diverse meaningful professional experience and mentorship to more than a dozen U of T work-study students, new graduates, and alumni.
One long-standing tradition near and dear to our hearts

And for the 17th year running, we close out 2022 by giving back to our community with non-perishable food, winter clothing, and monetary donations to the St. Basil’s Church out-of-the-cold program, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and Ronald McDonald House.
