Design standards and project forms
Design standards
The University of Toronto’s design standards apply to all construction projects on the St. George campus.
The design standards are intended to be a reference and a minimum baseline for bid and construction documents, including technical specifications, that are prepared by the design team. Designs are expected to adhere to these standards unless variations are requested and approved by the university.
The design standards don’t relieve the design team of its professional responsibility, due diligence, duty of care or legal liability for any bid and construction documents.
The design standards are organized based on the Construction Specifications Institute’s MasterFormat 2020 edition.
Changes, revisions and feedback
Each standard is a living document and, as such, is under constant review and revision. As revisions and new sections are incorporated, the version number and issue date will be updated, and the revised document published as it becomes available. At the start of each project, the design team will acknowledge the current version of the university’s design standards that they intend to use.
